St. Tammany Parish Democrats Elect New Chair, Open Applications to Fill Four Vacant Seats
Revitalized committee invites residents to get involved ahead of the November election
St. Tammany Parish, LA — July 19, 2026 — The St. Tammany Democratic Parish Executive Committee (DPEC) has elected Allison Mathas as its new Chair as the committee re-establishes an active, organized Democratic presence across the parish ahead of the November 3 election.
Mathas is not new to the committee. A teaching artist and retail manager, she has served on the DPEC as the District 4 representative for the past two years and has also worked as an Election Commissioner in St. Tammany Parish. She holds a bachelor's degree in theatre from the University of Southern Mississippi and is pursuing a master's degree in educational theatre at Adelphi University. Since her election, she has led an effort to rebuild the committee's operations, communications, and community outreach.
“As an educator and a standing member of this committee, I know what’s possible when Democrats organize in every corner of St. Tammany. We’re rebuilding this committee to show up for our neighbors; registering voters, supporting candidates, and making sure every community in the parish has a seat at the table.”
As part of that effort, the committee is now accepting applications to fill four vacant seats: the District 6 and District 11 seats, and two At-Large seats. The DPEC's districts align with the St. Tammany Parish Council districts.
To be eligible, applicants must be registered to vote as Democrats and reside in St. Tammany Parish; the district seats require residence within that district. Members help elect Democratic candidates, register and educate voters, support local Democratic organizations, and serve as their community's voice on the committee.
Residents interested in serving can apply online at www.sttammanydems.org/join-dpec. Applications are reviewed by the committee, and applicants may be invited to speak before a vote of the full membership.
Through its committees, voter registration efforts, and volunteer opportunities, the DPEC also welcomes members of the public who want to get involved without holding a seat.
