Registering to vote in Louisiana is quick and free.

Deadlines for November 3: register in person or by mail by October 5, 2026, or online by October 13, 2026.
Am I eligible to register?
You can register to vote in Louisiana if you:
Are a U.S. citizen
Live in Louisiana and in the parish where you're registering
Are at least 16 years old (you must be 18 by Election Day to vote)
Are not currently incarcerated for a felony conviction
Not sure if you're already registered, or need to check your current info? Look yourself up anytime at voterportal.sos.la.gov.
Does my party registration matter?
Yes — more than it used to. Starting in 2026, Louisiana uses closed party primaries for certain offices, including Congress, BESE, the Public Service Commission, and the state Supreme Court. That means your party registration determines which primary ballot you can vote in for those races.
If you want a say in who becomes the Democratic nominee, make sure you're registered as a Democrat. (Voters registered with no party may choose one party's primary to vote in; voters registered with another party cannot.) You can check or change your party affiliation anytime through the Voter Portal at voterportal.sos.la.gov.
