St Tammany Voter FAQ
-
Louisiana changed its election system this year. For certain offices — Congress, BESE, the Public Service Commission, and the state Supreme Court — the state now uses closed party primaries, where you vote in your own party's primary. Those spring primaries already happened in May and June.
November 3 is the general election. For most offices, you'll be choosing between the parties' nominees. One important exception: because of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Louisiana's congressional map (Louisiana v. Callais), the U.S. House race was moved to an open primary on November 3, meaning all candidates appear on one ballot regardless of party, with a runoff on December 12 if no one wins a majority.
Because the map and dates can still shift, always confirm your ballot at voterportal.sos.la.gov before you vote.

The general election is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Polls are open 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM. If any race requires a runoff, the second round is Saturday, December 12, 2026.
