OUR COMMITTEES
The real work of the St. Tammany DPEC happens in our committees. Each one focuses on a different part of building a stronger Democratic Party in our parish — from winning elections and registering voters to supporting candidates, engaging young people, and keeping our community informed.
Most committees welcome volunteers, and you don’t need experience to get involved — just a willingness to help. Read through the descriptions below and think about where your interests and skills might fit best.
Program Committee
★ Officer-led — members welcome to support
Plans the committee’s annual calendar of events and organizes the programs, guest speakers, and special sessions that make DPEC meetings worth showing up for. This work is led by the Communications Director together with the Secretary.
Are you someone who loves planning events and bringing people together for a shared purpose? You’d be a natural fit to help shape our programming.
Campaign Committee
✓ Open to volunteers
Builds the overall game plan for electing Democrats across St. Tammany Parish. The committee supports every Democratic candidate with information and hands-on help, recruits people to run for office, and works to make sure Democrats compete for every partisan seat in the parish — including a role in any redistricting decisions that shape future elections.
Are you someone who gets energized by elections and wants to help Democrats win up and down the ballot? This is where the strategy happens.
Young Democrats Committee
✓ Open to volunteers
Focuses on getting people under 40 involved in the Democratic Party here in St. Tammany, and builds connections with other organizations for young people.
Are you under 40 and looking for your political home — or passionate about bringing younger voices into the party? Start here.
Membership Committee
★ Officer-led — members welcome to support
Welcomes and processes new members — reviewing applications, confirming qualifications, keeping our membership records, providing orientation, distributing membership cards, and tracking attendance at meetings. This work is led by the Parliamentarian together with the Secretary.
Are you someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and enjoys making newcomers feel genuinely welcome? This is the committee that keeps us growing.
Budget & Finance Committee
✓ Open to volunteers
Plans the year’s fundraising activities, tracks the committee’s income and spending, and makes sure our financial reports are accurate and filed on time. The committee works closely with the Treasurer and meets at least quarterly. A background in accounting or bookkeeping is especially valuable here.
Are you good with numbers, or do you have experience in accounting or finance? Your skills would directly strengthen the organization.
Legislative Committee
✓ Open to volunteers
Reviews existing and proposed laws, ordinances, and resolutions at the local, state, and national level, and recommends positions for the DPEC to take. Once the committee adopts a position, it’s shared with legislators, public officials, and allied Democratic clubs — and the committee reports back on the responses it receives.
Are you someone who follows policy and politics closely and wants your voice to help shape where our party stands on the issues?
Voter Education, Registration & Public Outreach Committee
✓ Open to volunteers
Runs parish-wide voter registration and education programs designed to reach every part of the community, and recruits new deputy registrars. The committee also publicizes DPEC activities in local news and a quarterly newsletter, and strengthens communication and cooperation among Democratic clubs across St. Tammany.
Are you someone who loves connecting with the community and helping people get registered, informed, and ready to vote? This is grassroots democracy in action.
Ethnic & Diversity Committee
✓ Open to volunteers
Works to ensure the party truly reflects and represents everyone — including ethnic communities, women, and LGBTQIA+ people. The committee raises the visibility of these communities as core constituencies of the Democratic Party, helps make sure our message resonates with them, and recommends actions to keep the party inclusive and representative.
Are you someone who cares about equity, inclusion, and making sure every community has a seat at the table? Your perspective belongs here.
Precinct Organizing Committee
✓ Open to volunteers
Recruits, trains, and supports a team of precinct workers — the neighbors who carry the party’s message door to door, listen to voters, and work to turn out the maximum vote for our candidates. The committee also coordinates with local Democratic clubs on precinct responsibilities.
Are you someone who likes talking with your neighbors and doing the on-the-ground work that actually wins elections? We need you.
Education Committee
✓ Open to volunteers
Advises the DPEC on education issues, partners with public schools and Head Start programs to improve children’s educational experience, and proposes education-related legislation and budget initiatives.
Are you a parent, educator, or advocate who cares deeply about public schools and the future of our kids? Help us put education front and center.
Rules Committee
★ Officer-led — fixed membership set by bylaws
Reviews any written complaints or grievances filed between members and makes recommendations to the Chair, and may help prepare the agenda for DPEC meetings. By our bylaws, this committee has a set membership: it is chaired by the Parliamentarian and includes the DPEC Chair, the Secretary, and a first-term member.
This committee’s membership is defined by the bylaws and is not open to general sign-up — it’s listed here for transparency about how the DPEC governs itself.
Ready to Get Involved?
If one or more of these committees speaks to you, we’d love to have you. Committee members are appointed by the DPEC Chair, and the size of each committee is set in consultation with its chair. New committees can also be formed when a need arises. To express interest or ask questions, reach out to us and let us know which committee caught your eye — there’s a place for everyone who wants to help elect Democrats in St. Tammany Parish.
